IJTS – I need some clarifications

Dear IJTS ,
I’ve been knowing you as a pioneer in SCJP offering institute. However recent discussions on your own site www.technohug.net makes me seriously doubt you ! This is an extract from a Technohug discussion
Hi all.. I have got my degree from IJTS University, and I am really happy to take it from here which is affiliated to Open International University which has branches all around the world & also this is the biggest Grand Graduation convocation held in Sri Lanka.
Open international university was founded by a Sri Lanka Prof. Anton Jayasuriya, and really attracted more than 1000 foreigners to come to Sri Lanka to collect their BSc., and I believe thousands of Foreigners will come to get their IT related degree in future to IJTS University Sri Lanka which is founded by another Sri Lankan, Dr. Ishantha Siribaddana.
Now I am 25 years old and I have my BSc. (Software Engineering) E-commerce special degree with Five years experience on E commerce.
I also have got the entire infrastructure from IJTS Silicon Valley to start my own business “Internet Marketing King” and I have started earning from it now. My target is to earn one million plus monthly profits within the next five years & also to take E commerce in Sri Lanka beyond USA.
What made me suspicious is the fact that this guy has got a “BSc.(SE) E-Commerce Special” from a University which is offering degrees in “alternative medicine” – infact as i know this is the institution which offered degrees for Hon. M.P Mervin Silva. Please see the following image.
If you zoom in to the pictures in this thread you will clearly see that it mentions “alternative medicine” .(Please let me know if the link is not working – they will remove it at any time)
My Questions to you all
- Is this degree valid ?
- Is this recognized by UGC ?
- Can a university offer degrees out of their scope ?
Is this something similar to the XAurora ? If this is another bogus institute we should blow the whistle – otherwise hundreds of innocent people will get caught in this trap.
People at Technohug have questioned this and this is the immediate response of technohug admin

Are they trying to cover up something by silencing those who question it. I wont mind any dumb ass getting PHD’s from bogus degree shops , however people getting such undergraduate degrees will affect the IT industry as well.
I will withdraw this post if i get proof or clarification.

But I really hates a one person is getting more rich and richer.You ppl know who is him.

I hate that he getting innocent ppl’s money and returns nothing like he did for me.
anyway technohug is just a simple and very small web shouting space , they can make it
down. Anyway the freedom cannot be close .
These days web and the internet freedom is going to increasing. with the Ipv6 very soon.
so they have to give up a huge try to close the whole internet. One possible way is
attack and drop down those 13 root nameserver in the world. But it needs more smart sugar like skills.
if a bad man get rich that’s bad for the society , like this when a bad man be the owner of the
internet or internet communities ,think what will happen ! Fortunatelly there are other brids and
fish on the earth.so one man can play a one man show on the internet.
I will work about this , don’t worry.

Another mail related to IJTS scam
There is a bogus university operating right in side Sri Lanka without any knowledge from University Grants Commission. It is International Open University for Complimentary Medicine or IOU. It does not have a single building on this planet. It has a web site only. [http://www.oiucm.org]
Few famous Sri Lankans who got PhD from this body: (Just to name a few, most of leading businessmen/women having Dr. tittle has got it from IOU)
Dr. Mervin Silva
Dr. A.S.P. Liyanage
And some other beauticians and businessmen have also got degrees and PhDs from this body. (If you have ever seen a big beauty saloon with a very big cut-out posing the beautician wearing a yellow mixed degree cloak, then you know another “well-qualified” lady who have bought a degree from this bogus university!)
An IT institute has also started selling IT degrees from this bogus universities. It is IJTS Thummulla. They are selling IT degrees.

Don’t let them continue. These Politicians and Businessmen are ruining Sri Lanka and reputation for Sri Lankan Education.
And these are some information about the institute which sells degrees from IOU (I got these from an online forum)
Truth about IJTS “hora” degree – BSc (Java Technology)
1. It is offered by International Open University for Complimentary Medicine http://www.oiucm.org/
2. International Open University’s only IT section = IJTS
3.There is no such thing called International Open University, it is a name only. They don’t have a single building, they have a misleading web site only.
4. International Open University is a FRAUD university which is said to be offering degrees for complimentary medicine or apothecary medicine – what is the connection between JAVA and apothecary medicine?
5. That body doesnot seek for ANY QUALIFICATION when they are offering the degree certificate they SELL that degree certificate and that’s it.
6. IJTS has made some syllabus to show outside and they is offering that degree for a good price. IOU doesnot need any qualifications, if you are chosen by the owner of IJTS for some reason then you are going to BUY the degree. Eg- this time only PCJT and SCJP owners are also going to buy that degree.
Don’t let them continue. Spread this mail to all your contacts..

The very first day I listened to a talk from that Ishantha guy I understood he is just ..well.. crap. But there’s one thing he is really talented of, Making people believe what he want them to believe. When I said “people” there, I meant “Average people” or in other words “idiots” or “mentally weak people”.
The first thing I hate of the guy is he talk like he created Java. He convince people that java is the best of it’s kind (does he say it’s a computer language?). This make Lankan kids lamers. Believing that java is everything is a formula for disaster. Unfortunately there is lots of people who believe this bugger.
I heard this story. One of the the hundreds of ministers in Sri Lanka has said in a launch of IT year or such, that we should make ” X thousands” of JAVA DEVELOPERS to develop lankan IT industry. This smells fishy, this really sounds like ishanthas words. If it is “God Bless Lankan IT industry”.
And dear author: I think UGC approval is enough for being a university or whatever. ICTA & UCSC do not have such powers AFAIK (Maybe I don’t know much far

Hi All,
This so called Dr. Ishantha Siribaddana started this business way before the IJTS. Before IJTS there was a place called DLC (Distance Learning Center) in SLIDA at malalasekara mawatha (near BMICH). Those days that project was funded by world bank and Intention was to give students to learn new technologies. But Ishantha exploited that golden opportunity and world bank stopped the project.I’m ashamed that once I was a student there. what we all had was only good learning materials none other than that. This Ishantha talks likes JAVA GURU but he has no knowladge of it. All these guys do is distribute the materials and say learn your self.
Fortunately we had a guy from Virtusa who told us the real story and we were able to grab all the materials and get out of that bogus place.
Fortunately I was able Obtain a Degree from SLIIT and now I’m a software Engineer.
All I have to say for my brothers and sisters is
DONT GO FOR THAT BOGUS INSTITUTE.
No institute can give a degree like that. do a good research before you invest your hard earned (may be your parents)money for your education.

First of all thumbs up for the awareness u all making related to DR .Ishantha’s SAKWITHI works not before he runaway with hard-earned money & career life ,
its all clear now he is tapping to the recent A/L passouts life by having posters around saying to be a software engineer in one year, as from my
experience in IT & the IT industry , it demands experience & skills in IT not just merely a certificate of programming language or a diploma , and bogus institute like these only make innocent parents hard-earned money to go in their interest not for the interests of the students.
from time to time he is seen doing various tricks to attract students of all ages just showing off a programming language , so it is high time these white-collar culprits to be brought into justice before they run away
